Say So Sherlock delivering growing sector-wide data picture

By |

Say So has circulated the January Newsletter for each business sector to each of our members Senior Points of Contact (SPOC).

Now that Say So Sherlock  has been operational for 6 months our newsletters have brought together volumetric and statistical information gathered by our entirely new system since 2021 that paints a clear but constantly updating picture.

Amongst many data collection points, it shows which categories of concern amongst staff are most common, least common etc. rising and reducing issues, reasons for anonymity and emerging issues to trigger early prevention or deterrent measures.

It has been fascinating to see the data build and with 17000 (and growing) employees who can feel safe to speak up through Say So the data pool is becoming large enough to make firm conclusions. These can be for strategic consideration for deciding or re-enforcing positive action or  where anti-patterns are established,  to prevent unjustifiable diversion of resources.

We have collected more data in 2024 than in 2023 due to our growing list of member organisations and there is a demonstrable reduction in some categories that have been topically higher in 2022 and 2023.  The data is indicating that workplace cultures and standards  are improving across our member organisations.

Raised concerns of Sexual harassment / Sexual abuse have reduced year on year in the Fire and Rescue Sector and we believe that attitudes towards and acceptability of such behaviour has positively changed.

Interest in Say So has risen due to the amendments to workplace legislation active since October 2024 requiring employers to take reasonable steps to prevent sexual harassment at work.  Having a safe means to speak up and report clearly is a deterring factor and will assist employers in demonstrating their commitment to their staff to create safe workspaces.
